Bible verses about healing

James 5:14-15

Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;

~ James 5:14(NASB)

Prayer is a significant privilege for Christians because it gives us access to the throne of grace, where we can seek aid in times of need.

At the outset, we are admonished against being a double-minded Christian, praying with doubt in our hearts.

While we pray, we must believe in God, we learn that the virtuous man’s effective, fervent prayer has its foundations in trusting God and believing His Word.

In times of pain and sickness, James encourages people to pray.

We are not only urged to pray for ourselves and others, but we are also told to ask for prayer, no matter what we are experiencing.

Jeremiah 30:17

For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.

~ Jeremiah 30:17 (KJV)

For I will restore thy health, that is, bring thee into a comfortable and prosperous condition.

Just as the Jewish nation’s afflictions and distresses are expressed by sickness, wounds, and bruises, so their spiritual and temporal prosperity is symbolized by health.

The Lord God has promised us that he will restore our health and also heal our wounds. This promise and assurance of health is all that we need.

With our faith in Him, he will bring all these to pass in our lives.

Exodus 23:25

And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

~ Exodus 23:25 (KJV)

Moses tells the children of Israel that the number one condition for good health and God’s divine protection is for them to serve God.

When this is done, God has assured to bless their bread and water, and He will also take away sickness from them.

Same applies with us today, when we serve God and trust in His words, He will heal us all our sickness and he will also bless our water and our bread.

Exodus 15:26

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that heal thee.

~ Exodus 15:26 (KJV)

As the attributes of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob continued to be revealed to His chosen people, each of God’s revealed characteristics became a more beautiful picture of the coming Messiah.

The Mighty God and Prince of Peace, Who would also be the one Who would heal His people Israel, whom Isaiah described as sick “from the crown of their head to the sole of their foot.”

He would appear as the Horn of Salvation for the house of Israel’s lost sheep.

He would come to heal the nation’s spiritual ailment, to reawaken people from their spiritual slumber, and to remove the blinders that had blinded them spiritually.

Isaiah 53:4-5

Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted.

~ Isaiah 53:4(NASB)

The Son of God came to earth to save sinners from an eternity of separation from our heavenly Father and to give a way back into association with all that is good, perfect, wholesome, and holy. What a Saviour! Hallelujah!

On our behalf, he endured rejections and contempt. In our place, he was mocked and humiliated.

Our redemption for sin was secured and sealed via His shed blood, and life-everlasting was the wonderful gift that we received – and all we had to do was trust on His name.

What a Saviour! Hallelujah!

He was willing to be falsely accused and unjustly condemned to death, knowing that sinners could only be rescued through the sacrifice of His sinless life.

2 Chronicles 7:14-15

The sons of Manasseh were Asriel, whom his Aramean concubine bore; she bore Machir the father of Gilead.

~ 1 Chronicles 7:14(NASB)

As believers, we have the unique blessing of having direct access to the throne of grace for mercy in times of need.

Prayers for ourselves, our families, our leaders, and our country is crucial, as is a prayer for the lost, but it’s also critical to comprehend the Bible in its proper historical perspective.

This verse was the words of the great king Solomon, who constructed a magnificent Temple for the Lord and begged for God’s faithfulness to uphold the unconditional covenant that He made with his father, King David, in the company of God’s chosen people, Israel.

God answered his petition and accepted the sacrifices offered by King Solomon.

Fire descended from heaven and burned the offerings, revealing the Lord’s magnificence.

3 John 1:2

Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.

~ 3 John 1:2(NASB)

May we strive to be more like Gaius who is preferred in this verse, who walked in spirit, truth, and love, and was faithful in whatever good acts he did for the sake of saints and strangers alike.

May we behave as he did, no matter what physical difficulties we face, for, despite his visible infirmity, this greatly cherished Christian was a worthy example of a Christian saint who lived a life agreeable to the Lord and for His greater credit and glory.

“Beloved, I wish that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers,” John says, expressing some concern. John prayed for this respected saint’s bodily health to ‘prosper’ in his life.

It is God’s wish for us that we, his followers, should prosper and be in good health and not be sick.

Bible verses about healing the sick

Mark 5:34

And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

~ Mark 5:34

The woman with the blood issue reached out to Jesus’ cloth for healing, but she did so in secret for fear of being humiliated.

The woman is in discomfort as a result of her illness (Mark 5:26).

To make matters worse, she has been unclean for the past twelve years, unable to visit the temple or even be among other people without passing her uncleanness on to them.

She is not shamed by Jesus. Instead, He showers her with more treasures than she ever expected.

Jesus takes a break from what He’s doing to make sure she’s okay because that is God’s will for us. His plan is to make sure his children are healed.

Psalms 147:3

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

~ Psalm 147:3(ESV)

When difficulties or problems arise in life, we need to turn to the comforting words of Scripture.

We need to grab a promise and hold on to it, knowing that we have a wonderful and faithful God who has promised to be with us through all of life’s twists and turns.

He has committed to be our sufficiency in all situations.

In the midst of the hardships that life seems to shower over our heads or that try to bury us in the depths of depression, there is a magnificent peace that the Lord can provide to those who are His.

We need to rest in the faith that we have a Saviour who has promised to heal our broken heart and bind up our wounds.

Matthew 9:35

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

~ Matthew 9:35

Jesus preached and cured not only in the great and prosperous cities but also in the impoverished and inconspicuous villages.

The souls of the poorest people in the world are as valuable to Christ and should be to us, as the souls of the most powerful.

There were priests, Levites, and scribes all over the land, but they were idol shepherds, according to Zec 11:17; as a result, Christ had compassion for the people as sheep scattered and men died for lack of knowledge.

To this day, enormous swaths of humanity are like sheep without a shepherd, and we should feel compassion for them and do whatever we can to assist them.

The large number of people desiring spiritual instruction resulted in a bountiful harvest, necessitating a large number of active laborers.

Psalms 6:2

Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.

~ Psalm 6:2(ESV)

“My bones are troubled,” David writes. “Weak, faint, troubled, or afraid” is how the Hebrew word “troubled” is translated.

David’s strength had been sapped by whatever had come between him and the Lord. He was on the verge of losing hope in God; he was suffering.

This could have been a physical illness that David perceived as divine retribution.

David expresses his gratitude to the Lord by requesting that he be gracious to him.

The only way out of his miserable situation is to receive what he doesn’t deserve which is God’s grace.

The Lord rescues and forgives only via His grace. Grace erases the sin and pulls the sinner to the Lord, whilst sin divides the sinner from the Lord.

Psalms 73:26

My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

~ Psalm 73:26(NASB)

Asaph, the author of this song, was a worship leader in David’s tabernacle choir.

When Asaph witnessed how wicked folks seemed to prosper and get away with all kinds of immoral deeds, he got disappointed and his faith began to falter.

When he observed how the ungodly prospered and rose in wealth and popularity, despite their oppressive ways, devious plans, arrogant attitudes, and vile speeches, life seemed so unjust to him, and his trust in God was severely tested.

In comparison to these godless swaggers, Asaph knew he had lived a nice, honest, and respectable life, and life seemed cruel and unfair to this man of faith.

That is why he writes that his heart and flesh may fail him, but his strength will always be from God, and God is the only one that can heal the broken heart.

Bible verses about healing and comfort

Philippians 4:19

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

~ Philippians 4:19

This is a verse that we all like quoting as we celebrate our generous God’s abundant provision, which is brimming with gracious mercy and bursting over with loving-kindness.

He never makes any promises that will be broken, and His extravagant generosity covers everything. It provides us with all we require.

What we want isn’t necessarily what we need most times, and the Lord generously intervenes in our prayers to interpret any improper desires that may exist in our hearts and to intercede on our behalf so that our prayers may be granted.

He accomplishes this by giving us all we need rather than what we believe we want.

With these promises, we are assured that if we are sick, all we need to do is to ask God for healing and He will answer us.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

~ John 14:27(ESV)

Because we are saved, we have a lovely peace with God.

We have peace with God because we believe in Christ’s finished work of redemption because Christ is the propitiation for our sins, who made peace with God on our behalf.

Even in the midst of severe grief and troublous times, we can experience God’s peace that surpasses our comprehension when we surrender to His leadership and follow His example by saying: not my will, but Thine be done –

We have peace, Christ’s perfect peace because we are eternally united with our Saviour and can experience priceless communion with the Father as we walk in spirit and truth.

Deep in our hearts, we have been given the peace, the lovely peace of the Spirit of Christ that will help us through times of sickness and sadness.

Psalms 30:2

O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

~ Psalms 30:2

We pray to the Lord for His healing touch in our lives and on our bodies on a regular basis.

We frequently pray to God for a healing miracle for a friend or acquaintance who has been diagnosed with a significant health problem, but we often forget to thank Him for His healing touch in our lives and for our recovered health.

We often praise the doctor’s ability while overlooking God’s miracle.

In this psalm, however, we hear David proclaiming the Lord’s love and grace as he sings a song of thanks and praise for returning him to health and strength: “O LORD my God,” he happily sings.

Jeremiah 17:14

Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; Save me and I will be saved, For You are my praise.

~ Jeremiah 17:14(NASB)

Despite the masses’ rejection of Jeremiah’s message, Jeremiah was loyal to bringing the Lord’s Word to the people of Israel.

Jeremiah, on the other hand, had faith in God’s promises. He was part of a small group of devout Christians who prayed for recovery and deliverance: “Lord, cure me, and I will be healed.

Because You are my glory, deliver me and I will be preserved.”

We, too, are called to be faithful in the work that God has entrusted to us, as Jeremiah was.

If our lives become routine or our mission appears to be fruitless, we ought not to be discouraged.

We are called, like Jeremiah, to be faithful to the point of death in order to gain healing, deliverance, and God’s eternal recompense.

Luke 6:19

And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

~ Luke 6:19

Because of the healing power of Jesus Christ, the whole multitude sought to touch him.

That is, the multitude of those who were sick and possessed; for they were told, and they found it true by experience, that if they could only touch any part of his body or his garments, they would be cured of their diseases.

This is because there went virtue out of him in great abundance, like water from a fountain; without his speaking a word, or using any gesture, such as laying his hands on them:

They were healed of whatever disease they were suffering from in this covert and private manner.

The same should apply to us, when we are sick, we should seek to touch God through prayers and He will heal us of all our sickness.
