Bible verses for overwhelming times

Philippians 4:6-7

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

~ Philippians 4:6

We are not to be concerned about anything but rather to present our concerns to the Lord in prayer.

We are to pray correctly, which we can only do if we abide in Christ and He.

We are to keep our hearts free of anxiety and worrying, and we can only do so by casting all our worries and concerns on the Lord Jesus because He is concerned about us.

It is not a suggestion that all born from above be anxious for nothing. On the contrary, it is a mandate and a responsibility for all born from above to be anxious for nothing.

Anxiety not only displays a lack of faith in God and His Word, but it is also purposeful disobedience to His evident command.

1 Peter 5:6-9

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

~ 1 Peter 5:6

Pride is a destructive attitude that can disrupt the communion of believers and foster a discourteous attitude, causing division among brethren, which should not be.

Humility contributes to fellowship, where peace and graciousness prevail, causing division among brethren, which should not be.

But humility is a fruit of the Spirit that should be the goal of all Christian men and women, regardless of how mature in the faith they have become or how young they are in the Christian life.

God gives the grace to be humble, wise, faithful, understanding, and holy, but He resists and opposes all those who are proud.

In all we do, and no matter what we go through, we should be humble and trust in God.

Matthew 6:25

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

~ Matthew 6:25

Jesus tells His followers not to be concerned about their daily life, such as what they will eat, drink, or wear.

Most people’s days are spent finding, preparing, or earning money for food.

Jesus emphasizes that life is about more than what we eat and wear. God has plans for us that go beyond those fleeting things.

Jesus does not advise His people to give up their employment. He isn’t telling them to sit around and wait for God to provide for them miraculously.

But Jesus is urging His audience to take control of what is going on in their minds and emotions, in accord with the remainder of the Sermon on the Mount.

You must trust and believe in God even in a severe problem or situation.

2 Timothy 1:6-7

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

~ 2 Timothy 1:6

Paul encourages Timothy to use his spiritual abilities to the fullest extent possible.

The phrase “gift of God” is typically used in the New Testament to mean salvation. For example, Jesus described salvation as a “gift of God” in John 4:10.

The statement appears twice more in Paul’s writings: “For by grace you have been saved through faith” (Romans 6:23) and “For by grace you have been saved through faith.”

Timothy’s salvation was to be “fanned into flame.” Paul most likely refers to Timothy’s redemption and calling to serve others when he mentions laying on his hands.

Paul commands him to serve as a good soldier of Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 2:3–4) who is to “preach the word” throughout the letter (2 Timothy 4:2).

The concept is straightforward: fanning a flame makes it stronger, brighter, and hotter. You must put your trust in God no matter what you go through.

1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

~ 1 John 4:18

Faith, hope, and Love cannot coexist with fear, guilt, or shame.

Fear and Love are opposed, “for there is no fear in love; since perfect love casts out fear,” as the saying goes.

A loving, secure trust in God cannot coexist with destructive fear. Fear is the polar opposite of Love, and scared people lack the mature Love God seeks in His children.

Every negative impact of fear is overwhelmed by the immeasurable strength of God’s perfect Love.

Fear is rendered ineffective in the life of a believer by Love “because there is no fear in love.”

Love describes God’s character, and when God’s Love pervades a soul, no anxious thoughts can overwhelm it.

John 14:17

Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

~ John 14:17

We do not need to be afraid when we feel God’s Love in our lives and share it with others.

The abiding believer is unconcerned about the future punishment that awaits those who do not believe.

God’s Love in our life is a two-way relationship that provides us confidence and security.

The ability to live out His Love is a sign of our faith in Him and a path for us to follow His will and receive eternal blessings.

The word “fear” is linked to the word “punishment.” The sins of the believer have been forgiven completely.

The person who has a meaningful relationship with Christ lives for Him and does not need to be concerned about future retribution. But unfortunately, fearful people haven’t yet “perfected themselves in love.”

1 Corinthians 10:13

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

~ 1 Corinthians 10:13

These genuinely encouraging words have brought comfort and consolation to generations of believers, young and old.

Believers who have clung to this precious promise as a spiritual lifeline, knowing that His grace is sufficient for all eventualities and that His sufficient grace will expand and multiply to encompass all temptations, trials, and tribulations that we may face in this life.

Let us never forget that our hardships and temptations are no different from what others face – and God has promised that He will not allow the trick to be more than we can handle but will offer a way out via His grace so that we can persevere.

With these encouraging words, we can rest assured that even in hard times, God will always be with us and protect us.

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

~ Hebrews 11:1

Faith believes that the things God has revealed in His written Word will undoubtedly happen.

At the foot of the Cross, living faith in God’s Word and confident hope in His promises are two graces that embrace each other in Love.

This isn’t a doubtful faith. On the contrary, this faith believes that God’s Word is entirely trustworthy and confident.

What God says during difficult times

Isaiah 41:10

‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

~ Isaiah 41:10(NASB)

Let us never forget that these words of comfort were spoken to His people by the Creator of the Universe.

He is the One who encourages His children not to be afraid because He can calm a raging storm and heal the broken-hearted.

He is the One who urges us not to worry and forbids us from worrying about evildoers.

He asks us to cast all our worries on Him because He loves us and pledges to be with us always, even until the end of time.

The Lord Jesus commands us not to be discouraged or disheartened because He is our God, and that reality should be enough.

Exodus 15:2

The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

~ Exodus 15:2

Moses’ and the children of Israel’s courage and faith in the face of Egyptian fears and the Red Sea crossing is very inspiring, and we should emulate

Christ is the author and giver of strength to his children, the power of their lives, hearts, and graces.

Christ strengthens them to do his will and work, exercise every grace, withstand corruptions, and resist temptations; we also should request strength and grace when facing any problem.

Psalm 9:9-10

And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

~ Psalm 9:10(NASB)

“Those who know Your name put their trust in You,” wrote the psalmist.

How could we not have faith in this eternal God of grace, whose majesty is limitless, whose strength is unrivaled, whose tender mercy is everlasting, whose grace is adequate, and whose deep, unconditional Love is unrivaled?

Despite Israel’s arrogant defiance and desire for other gods, the Lord keeps His promises, and those who know His name will never be abandoned because they trust Him.

And, despite their vicious hostility, the day is coming when God, in His grace, will exalt Israel to be the head and not the tail of the nations.

In difficult times, we must learn to put our trust in God.

1 Chronicle 16:11

Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.

~ 1 Chronicles 16:10(NASB)

The Lord is exalted in His people’s praise and worship, and what joy and happiness there was in the city of God on this historic day of great delight when the Ark of the Covenant was finally returned to His people after decades of absence.

In difficult times, we should praise the LORD, call on His name, and tell the people about His deeds.

Sing praises to Him and tell of all His beautiful wonders! Let the hearts of those who seek the LORD delight in His holy name! And everyone responded with a resounding “AMEN!”

By so doing, God will intervene on our behalf.

What the Bible says about life struggles

1 Peter 5:10

After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

~ 1 Peter 5:10(NASB)

Believers have been promised that suffering will come to an end. Suffering will occur in this life, but it will end for those who believe in Christ.

Furthermore, believers will be restored from all of the harm that has been done to us.

Peter emphasizes the reality of suffering, particularly for those who are persecuted for their faith in Christ.

However, all Christians suffer in different ways. Therefore, we cannot expect our salvation to remove grief and heartache on this side of eternity. Rather, eternal redemption implies that suffering will end one day and for all time.

Suffering as a Christian is unavoidable, according to Peter. It is a result of our faith in Christ. Jesus said that the people hated him and would also hate us.

Even though we do not enjoy suffering, God has promised to strengthen and support us, restore and establish us, and bring us into HIS eternal glory through Christ.

Those who bore pain were regarded as ‘fortunate,’ according to James.

Romans 5:3-5

And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience.

~ Romans 5:3

Romans chapter 5 is one text that lays the groundwork for knowing who we are in Christ.

Our Lord Jesus Christ has reconciled us to God, and we are no longer separated from Him because of sin since we have been redeemed with a price. The precious blood of Jesus Christ.

We have access to God’s tremendous grace via faith in Him, which helps us to stay firm in this lousy day and encourages us to rejoice in the hope of God’s glory despite the struggles we may be going through currently.

Indeed, we can approach the throne of grace for mercy and find help in our time of need because of Christ.

Romans 8:17-18

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

~ Romans 8:17

When Christ was on earth, He represented the Father in all things, doing only what He had learned from the Father.

Also, He taught us obedience through his earthly suffering, including the Cross.

Because of our new birth, we are permanently connected with our Lord in ALL things, and Paul tells us that if we share in His sufferings, we will also share in His glory.

This tells us that no matter what we pass through, we should have faith in God, who will guide us through our struggles.

Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

~ Romans 8:28

This consoling chapter reminds us that because we are in Christ, we are free from God’s judgment and condemnation, the curse of the law, slavery to sin, and Satan’s accusations.

Although we may go through struggles in life, we have been set free from death and destruction, as well as defeat and decay, because Christ has already won the victory on our behalf – by grace through faith in Him.

Galatians 6:9

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

~ Galatians 6:9

We are saved, and our sins are forgiven by grace via faith in Christ Jesus. Thus the gospel of grace demands no effort.

But, to live our Christian lives as unto the Lord, we must persevere as we follow in the footsteps of our Saviour toward the aim of our calling, which is to be conformed into the image of Christ.

This requires work and courage that can only come from the Holy Spirit – yet in doing so, we obey the Lord as we sprint to the finish line and receive the heavenly prize to which God has called us.

So let us continue to do good, and “let us not lose heart in doing good, for we shall reap in due time.”

What does God say about worry and stress?

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

~ John 14:27

We have peace even in times of stress and worry through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This is because Christians are eternally united with our Savior and can experience exquisite communion with the Father as we walk in Spirit and truth.

We have been given the peace of the Spirit of Christ deep within our inner souls, for He has taken up permanent abode outside our bodies through all time and eternity.

There is no rest or hope unless we are reconciled to the Father through Christ Jesus.

Matthew 11:28-30

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

~ Matthew 6:25

The call from Jesus for all sinners to come to Him is without conditions.

No one will be turned away by him. There is no need to keep a safe distance because Christ invites everyone to approach near to Him.

He is the only one who can free the burdened heart from the heavy yoke of sin.

He is the only one who can mend broken hearts, save those who are on the verge of death, and set the captive free from the yoke of sin. And He extends His invitation to anybody who will believe in His name.

‘Come To Me’ is an invitation to the burdened sinner and the broken-hearted soul. Please come as you are. “All you who toil and are heavy laden, come to Me, and I will give you rest.”

Romans 8:31

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

~ Romans 8:28

We have been purchased at a cost and transferred from the domain of darkness to His beautiful kingdom of light and life, and we are asked to be holy as God is holy.

We are accepted as God’s children in Christ, and we are invited to love others as Christ loves us and to live and move in the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us.

On this side of eternity, Paul continues to bring encouragement to Christians.

Like the rest of creation, we will likely suffer while we wait to be glorified with God eternally.

However, just because we are suffering does not mean God is not with us or for us.

Isaiah 41:10

Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

~ Isaiah 41:10(NASB)

We should not be afraid because God has promised to strengthen all who belong to Him. Therefore, even when we are passing through stress, we should not be anxious.

Jesus emphasizes this truth again to the apostle Paul when He tells him that Christ’s strength is sufficient because His strength is perfected in our weakness: “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is perfected in weakness.”

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble,” the Lord says, adding that in addition to having all of our needs met, He will be an ever-present aid in distress.

“Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age,” the Lord Jesus Himself assured.

What does the Bible say about hope in hard times

Hope is a virtue we all value and strive for, especially during difficult times. When everything seems to be falling apart around us, hope gives us a place to stand. It gives us the courage to keep going even when the odds are stacked against us, and it allows us to see beyond our current difficulties to brighter days ahead.

Job 13:15

“Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him,”

~Job 13:15

This scripture emphasizes how, even while confronting seemingly insurmountable challenges, we must maintain confidence and hope in what God has planned for us.

Romans 5:5-6

“Hope does not put us to shame because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us”

~ Romans 5:5-6

This verse emphasizes how crucial it is for Christians to have hope because of God’s Love for us. Hope will never fail us if we have Love as our foundation.

What God says during difficult times

God wants us to know that He is always with us. In this life, we will face numerous hardships and afflictions, but we may be assured that God will never abandon us. He will always be a friend when we need Him the most.

Matthew 28:20

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

~Matthew 28:20

God is faithful, and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond your capabilities, but He will offer a way out of the temptation so that you can withstand it. So do not be astonished, Beloved, when the fiery trial comes upon you to test you, as though something unexpected is happening to you. But rejoice in proportion to your participation in Christ’s sufferings so that you may also rejoice and be pleased when his glory is revealed.

Hebrews 13:5

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.

~ Hebrews 13:5

God wants us to know that He hears and answers all of our prayers. Even though it seems our prayers are being ignored, we can rest assured that God listens to them and responds in His own time. Some prayers are promptly answered, while others take a long time. The answer isn’t always yes, but we can believe that God knows what’s best for us and won’t give us anything we can’t handle.

What the Bible says about life struggles

You will face challenges no matter where you are in life. The question isn’t whether or not we’ll face challenges but how we’ll handle them when they occur. First, we must realize that God knows our difficulties and never abandons us.

Acts 7:10

And rescued him from all his troubles. He gave Joseph wisdom and enabled him to gain the goodwill of Pharaoh king of Egypt. So Pharaoh made him ruler over Egypt and all his palace.

~ Acts 7:10

According to Acts 7:10, Joseph’s difficulties were in rescuing lives. Joseph’s struggle was put to good use by God. We can be assured that God has a plan for us and that He will utilize our trials for good (Romans 8:28)

James 1:2-3

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance

When we endure difficulties of all types, we should consider it pure joy, according to James 1:2-3, because testing your faith promotes endurance. Perseverance must accomplish its task for you to be grown and complete, lacking nothing. Therefore, when we confront difficulties, we must remember that God uses them to help us grow into the people He wants us to be.

1 Corinthians 10:13

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

1 Corinthians 10:13

There is no temptation too severe for people to bear, according to 1 Corinthians 10:13. All attractions can be defeated by the strength of God within us if we seek His help (Philippians 4:13).
