5 Virtuous Women In The Bible

1. Hannah:

Elkanah had two wives, and Hannah is one of them. When it came time to make a sacrifice, her husband always gave her double portions out of compassion for her infertility. Hannah, however, was devastated that she was unable to have children.

She often cried as she prayed to God, asking for a child. She maintained a positive outlook and trusted in the Lord despite her suffering. Eli once observed her praying and assumed she was intoxicated.

Eli said she could go and her request would be granted when she clarified that she wasn’t intoxicated and was merely praying to God. Hannah waited patiently while placing her faith in the Lord.

How many of us, even when God grants us peace regarding something, persist in trying to bring it about on our own or allow it to bring us down? Hannah persevered in her faith and prayer despite getting stirred up and pouring her heart out to God for such a long time.

She trusted in God and left it at the Lord’s feet when He granted her peace.

1 Samuel 1:18, She said, “May your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.

Hannah is undoubtedly a perfect example of perseverance and strength. She listened to the Lord and trusted, despite someone chastising her for not being able to have children. Another excellent illustration of the woman in Proverbs 31.

2. Esther:

When Esther and many other women were gathered to be considered by the king as potential wives, Esther was a simple Jewish girl raised by her uncle. After undergoing numerous cosmetic procedures and preparations, she was chosen to be the new queen.

But she was compelled to appear before the king in an unwanted manner because of a covert onslaught planned against the Jews in her country (which was a no-no). She demonstrated her Jewish identity, risked her life to defend her people, and had faith in God to look out for her.

Esther 7:3-4,  Then Queen Esther answered, “If I have found favor with you, Your Majesty, and if it pleases you, grant me my life—this is my petition. And spare my people—this is my request. My people and I have been sold to be destroyed, killed, and annihilated.

When Esther became queen, she didn’t forget about poor people underneath her. Her soul didn’t taint.

3. Elizabeth:

Elizabeth was infamous for being infertile. Being childless was associated with a lot of guilt back then. Before she got pregnant, Elizabeth and her husband were both old.

But when Mary, the mother of Jesus, arrived to inform Elizabeth that she was expecting the Messiah, she became the mother of John the Baptist, who leaped in the womb! Elizabeth is said to have been infused with the Holy Spirit and given Mary knowledge.

Luke 1:41-42,  When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!”

Several other verses highlight Elizabeth’s extraordinary character. She is more well known, though, for her spotless conduct, her faith in God to grant her a child, and her wisdom and prophecy, which are evident in every verse she mentions. She embodies the ideal Proverbs 31 woman.

4. Mary Magdalene

Being one of Jesus’ most devoted followers, Mary Magdalene is well-known. Mary was the first to go to the tomb and encounter Jesus after his resurrection. Mary was freed from seven spirits by Jesus.

Mary bathed Jesus’ feet while crying and dried them with her hair in a moment of humiliation. She then applied a very expensive vial of perfume to them.

Matthew 26:12-13,  In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.

Mary was a stunning woman who humbled herself to the point where her narrative inspired all women for thousands of years. She went from being possessed to being free in Christ. Another lovely woman epitomizes what a Proverbs 31 wife should be like.

5. Dorcas

Although a less well-known biblical character, Dorcus is still essential to remember. Tabitha, another name for Dorcus, was a resident of Joppa. She was renowned for her tireless efforts when she was still alive.

Just before Jesus arrived, she died. Many were lamenting her death. Jesus ordered her to awaken as He entered the room with her body. Everyone applauded God as she was brought to the widows she loved.

What a beautiful life Dorcus led so many people to lament her departure. She showed kindness to those in need and led a moral life. Her passing caused a profound loss in her hometown as a result.

Acts 9:39,  All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.
