Examples of Self-Sabotage in the Bible

King Saul

Saul was anointed as the first king of Israel, but his insecurity, jealousy, and disobedience to God’s command led to his downfall. He repeatedly disobeyed God’s command and took matters into his own hands, ultimately leading to his death.

Samson

Samson was a Nazirite given great strength by God, but he repeatedly allowed his lust and desire for women to get the better of him. His attraction to Delilah led to his downfall, as she betrayed him to the Philistines, who then blinded and imprisoned him.

Judas Iscariot

Judas was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, but he betrayed Jesus by agreeing to hand him over to the authorities for thirty pieces of silver. Judas’ greed and desire for money led him to betray Jesus, and he later regretted his actions and committed suicide.

David

David was a man after God’s heart, but his sin with Bathsheba and the subsequent murder of her husband Uriah led to a series of consequences that affected his family and his reign as king.

Jonah

Jonah was a prophet who God commanded to go to Nineveh and preach repentance to the people there, but he disobeyed and tried to run away from God. This led to his being swallowed by a great fish and spending three days and three nights in its belly before he finally repented and obeyed God’s command.
