What does the bible say about serving others?

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to serve others. But what does the Bible say about helping others? Let’s look at some verses to find out.

In Mark 10:45, Jesus says, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Jesus, who is our Savior and Lord, came to serve us. He gave His life for us. If we want to be like Jesus, we must also be willing to help others.

Galatians 5:13, we read, “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” We have been set free from sin by the blood of Jesus Christ. But this freedom is not for our selfish desires. Instead, we are called to use it to serve one another in love.

Philippians 2:3-4, we are told, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his interests, but also to the interests of others.” This is a challenging command. It requires us to put the needs of others before our own. But when we do, we reflect the love of Christ to the world.

In 1 Peter 4:10, we read, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” God has given each of us unique gifts and talents. We are not to use them for our glory but to serve others and bring glory to God.

The Bible is clear that serving others is an essential part of the Christian life. We are called to imitate Jesus Christ, who came to help us. We must use our freedom and gifts to serve one another in love. Let us, therefore, ask God to give us the strength and courage to help others as Christ did us. Amen.
