Bible Verses for Starting Over

Life can be so wonderfully measured by seasons and stages. Fall begins with the shedding of colorful leaves; winter begins with a cold bed of snow; spring begins with the sprouting of new life; and summer begins with warm sunny days.


Starting over again is not an easy thing to do, but worths it. God himself sees all of the time from beginning to end, and He tells us the same thing He told Israel back then: “Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:18-19). Starting over is never easy. But give your concerns to the Lord.

Here is what the bible says about starting over;


Ecclesiastes 3:1-5

This bible verse has a clear explanation about starting over.  There’s a time for everything in life. This brings great confidence to us to know that we can expect a warmer season after a colder one. In the same manner that God “makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good (Matthew 5:45).” He allows seasons to change and new beginnings to ascend.

Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.-

This verse talks about letting go of everything that hinders you from moving forward, be it sin, or any other thing that entangles your life. It could be anything, toxic relationship, bad friends, and more.

Jesus is the pioneer of our lives and the perfecter of our faith. So it’s crucial to return to him for a fresh beginning, he alone can give life and hope.

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.-

In this bible verse, God is talking about people who can turn from their wicked ways. If your life went out of control and you feel lost, God says he is ready to hear your prayers and forgive your sins, only if you are ready to turn a new living.

Isaiah 43:18-19

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”-

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here.-

This verse is telling us about Christ as a new creation, therefore if you look up to Christ now, and turn from your old ways, then you are a new being in Christ.

What Does the Bible Say About Starting Over?

The Bible says a lot about starting over, but it lays more emphasis that without letting go of your old life, you are far from receiving the blessings that come with a new beginning.

So put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life which is corrupt through deceitful desires, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Lamentations 3:22-24

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘“The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’”-

Here we see the beauty of a new beginning. A new morning. New mercies awaiting us. We see that they are new every morning.

John 13:34-35

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.-

We see in this passage that while Jesus was here on earth, he was leading by example, even though he was doing a new thing!

He came to lay a new foundation for the world by teaching believers a new way of living, a new commandment, a new covenant: to love as we have been loved.

When God Gives You a New Beginning Bible Verse

The scripture points out that we are new creations in Christ as “the old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

God clearly reminds me that if I am to trust Him, I am to take Him at His Word. His Word tells us that each of us is a new creation in Him.

If we are Christ’s followers, He is making us new. God’s timing may not be ours, it may not happen as quickly as we would like.

God isn’t a magic genie who snaps his fingers and makes us into a new creation in 24 hours. And truly, we wouldn’t want Him to be.

God Gives us a Fresh Start

A fresh start in life can be so beautiful and attractive and many would admit that we’ve longed for one at various times. Thankfully, God specializes in providing people with a fresh start. Through his son Jesus Christ, we can have a fresh start, a new beginning, and a clean slate in life.

Bible Characters Who Got a Fresh Start

Everyone has probably had a time in their lives when they felt like everything is going wrong.

Maybe you overslept, messed up our shirt with coffee, and now you’re running late for a meeting. Automatically your day kicks off with a terrible start, and things can only grow worse.

Well, you’re not alone. Even many of the Bible’s most famous characters had rough days. Moses couldn’t speak well and so he stuttered when he spoke.

Abraham told a lie about his wife being his sister because he feared for his own life. David had to commit adultery and then had Uriah killed to cover it up.

But just because these characters made such mistakes doesn’t mean their stories failed. Most of them went on to have greater success after making a fresh start. God was always willing to forgive them and help them start over again.

You may be facing a difficult time right now. You may feel stuck in a dead-end job thinking it’s over for you or that your life is going nowhere.

If Joseph was able to achieve his dreams, then so can you do the same? It won’t be easy, but with determination and faith, you can overcome every obstacle. Don’t give up on yourself, let that be the last thing on your mind because you are worth fighting for.

  • Zacchaeus: A Tax Collector’s Transformation

When Zacchaeus sat up on the tree, he was desperately waiting to see Jesus. May have been a tax collector, but that didn’t mean Zacchaeus was bad. He became one of the most honest people in town. He just wanted a chance to meet Jesus and change his ways.

And that’s exactly what happened. When Jesus saw him, he called him down from the tree. He said, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house.” (Luke 19:5). Zacchaeus was full of happiness when he heard this that he promised to give half of his possessions to the less-privilege and to repay anyone he had cheated four times over.

Jesus gave Zacchaeus a fresh start, and he made the most of it. Just think about what could happen if you gave yourself a fresh start today.

Bible Verses About Rebuilding Your Life

The Bible also helps us rebuild our lives physically and spiritually. Proverbs 2 tells us to build our entire life on the Word, in the Word, and through the Word.

In other words, we are told to be intentional, purposeful, and practical about prioritizing God’s Word – which is God’s Wisdom.

Here are some Bible Verses that will help you rebuild your life.

Isaiah 61:4-9

They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations……-

This text talks about God rebuilding and giving restoration of life to things long dead. If God can rebuild and give restoration to ruined cities, how much more are his children?

Isaiah 9:10

The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the fig trees have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.-

So if you ever feel down and broken, this is yet another bible verse that talks about rebuilding and restoration of life.  God is capable of rebuilding brokenness. If you had been broken in any aspect of life, these bible verses were written to restore you and give you hope.

God is a God of New Beginnings

God all through generations has been given opportunities to start a new with his people! What a loving and faithful God we have. This is a deeply beneficial message for a time such as this.

Let’s be clear that all these people were not given restoration because they deserved it. They didn’t receive fresh starts because of what they would do but rather because of what God would do.

2 Kings 19:31

For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.-

How interesting that the verse doesn’t say “the power of the Lord” but rather “the zeal of the Lord” will accomplish it.

God’s intense feelings or passion toward His people is what drives Him to over and over again provide His people with new beginnings.
