Job Specifications

Aecom Burnaby is seeking a junior structural engineer with motivation to work in our Water Infrastructure division. Our team, which consists of senior engineers, EITs, technologists, CAD designers, and project managers, is dedicated to completing complex and demanding structural design projects for the water and wastewater treatment and transportation industries.

On bigger projects, you will also get the chance to collaborate with experts from different fields, such mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers.

Among the duties are, but are not restricted to:

  • Executes limited and defined tasks as part of a more comprehensive assignment done by an experienced engineer.
  • Collects and organizes fundamental technical data according to predetermined guidelines.
  • Carries out ordinary or in-depth engineering jobs that need calculations and basic testing.
  • Suggests a method for resolving recently discovered issues.
    finds differences in the outcomes.
  • Gives advice to engineers at the beginner level.
  • Carries out work with minimal supervision and in compliance with the predetermined budget and timeline.
  • Enhances design and analytical abilities.
  • Uses software on a computer to solve simple engineering problems.

Minimum Conditions

  • Civil Engineering Bachelor’s Degree
  • Qualified to register as a P. Eng. or EIT with APEGBC
  • Ideal qualifications would be a master’s degree in structural engineering.
  • Familiar with STAAD PRO and SAP for structural design tools
  • Two or more years of expertise designing structures using Canadian rules and standards is ideal.
  • Experience in brick, steel, concrete, and wood design
  • Some familiarity with structural analysis software that is industry standard.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English.
  • Understanding of the Vancouver Building Bylaw, the BC Building Code, and the National Building Code
  • Used to and capable of reading structural drawings
  • Capacity to multitask in a hectic setting
  • Capacity to operate both independently and as a team with minimal supervision
  • Optimistic outlook
  • Prior knowledge of pumping stations, water transportation infrastructure, and wastewater/water treatment would be beneficial.
  • Know the ACI 350 Code Requirements for Concrete Structures and Commentary in Environmental Engineering
  • Familiarity with Revit and AutoCAD

Extra Details

The rate of pay that is offered in Burnaby will depend on the worker’s location of employment, experience, credentials, and level of education. This position has a salary range of $60,389.03 to $95,000.
